Etisalat's Voice SMS, based on Kirusa platforms was launched in last Quarter of 2007. It was launched just before Eid festival so that Etisalat’s UAE subscribers could send Eid greetings to each other in their own language and voice, through this unique messaging option.

The Kirusa Voice SMS was a huge success with over half a million Voice SMS messages having been sent within 5 days of Eid holidays. This phenomenal adoption of Voice SMS service by Etisalat UAE subscribers demonstrates its success in multilingual mobile markets.

Kirusa has announced the release of KV.SMS 4.0, the next generation of its industry leading Voice SMS product. The new product, which will be at the core of all future Voice SMS implementations, comes with enhanced features that enrich and improve the Voice SMS usage experience, generate additional revenue for the mobile operators, and at the same time provide several industry firsts.

Some advanced features that simplify and enrich the user experience are International Voice SMS, allowing subscribers to send a voice message abroad, when convenient, without having to worry about time zone differences or the high cost of international voice calling, with the recipient able to retrieve and reply easily; Speed Codes, a fast and convenient way to compose or forward a Voice SMS message; Outbound message delivery, an ability to deliver Voice SMS messages using outbound calls; Background Music, allowing users to enrich and personalize the content in a simple way.

Kirusa demonstrated the world's first exchange of Voice SMS messages between diverse carriers using different Voice SMS systems. This is the first ever demonstration of Voice SMS interoperability anywhere in the world. The trials were based on the technical specification developed by the GSM Association, the worldwide trade association for the mobile phone industry. Ufone and Telenor Pakistan, with support from Kirusa and Mobile Arts, successfully exchanged Voice SMS messages between their networks.

The expansion, led by Qualcomm Ventures with participation by Eastven Partners, the successor fund to Ericsson Venture Partners, and Erasmic Venture Fund will further fuel Kirusa's global expansion to help meet strong worldwide demand for its products, and to increase its R&D activities. Original Series C investors include Helion Venture Capital and Nexus India Capital. Funding clearly states the high growth of Kirusa's voice SMS and increasing number of the carrier wins. This will help building strong relationships with the industry players and will help Kirusa capitalize potential markets.

Qualcomm Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and mobile data solutions announced that the companies have entered into a license agreement to customize and integrate Qualcomm’s Short Voice Service™ (SVS) client technology into Kirusa’s Voice SMS platform..
