Berkeley Heights, NJ, MAY 21, 2002 - Kirusa, a worldwide provider of platforms enabling multimodal wireless applications delivery, today announced the addition of Dr. Lawrence R. Rabiner to the company's Board of Advisors. Dr. Rabiner, who will advise the company on a wide range of issues, including technology, strategy, and business development, joins Kirusa from AT&T Laboratories where he served as Vice President of Research and directed research programs in communications, computing, and information science technologies.

Dr. Rabiner joins Kirusa's esteemed Board of Advisors including Manoj Goel, Internet Junction founder, Ashish Gupta, Junglee and Tavant Technologies founder, Ajay Jain, Excom founder/President, Krishnamurty Kambhambati, uReach founder/CEO, Viren Malaviya, Cisco's Wireless Systems Architect, and Michael Skarzynski, Xebeo CEO. Each is an industry leader well noted for technical and business accomplishments, providing wide-ranging experience that will enhance Kirusa's strategic development and increase market access.

"Multimodal wireless services that allow consumers to simultaneously use voice and visual interactions in the context of a single application session are the next logical step for mobile operators and enterprises worldwide," said Dr. Rabiner. "I am excited to use my experience in making voice-based services real to help maximize the business potential inherent in Kirusa's multimodal technology leadership."

"Larry's broad vision and expertise in speech recognition and synthesis, as well as his deep understanding of real-world speech-based systems implementations, will clearly strengthen our company and drive our platforms to their full potential," said Dr. Inderpal Singh Mumick, CEO of Kirusa. "His leadership at AT&T Laboratories consistently and repeatedly enabled that company to reduce and avoid costs and create new revenue through new and improved service offerings. The research effort he directed over the past 5 years produced an estimated return of more than $5 for each $1 invested. Such solid, real-world experience will maximize the value of Kirusa's technology for our customers and investors."

Dr. Rabiner began his career with AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1967 after earning his Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Pioneering a number of digital filtering and spectrum analysis algorithms, he built one of the first speech synthesizers capable of converting arbitrary text to intelligible speech. His research efforts resulted in implementation of numerous speech-based systems across AT&T, fostering high performance, reliability and significant economic advantages for the company - one such system leveraging voice recognition has saved the company over $350 million-per-year while opening significant new revenue opportunities. Dr. Rabiner joined the newly created AT&T Laboratories in 1996 as Director of the Speech and Image Processing Research Laboratory, culminating his career as Vice President of Research.
