Kirusa awarded patent for "A Technique
for Synchronizing Visual and Voice Browsers to Enable Multi-Modal
Browsing"
Third patent for leading developer of solutions that provide freedom
of multimodality
New Jersey, Wednesday, August 1, 2007: Kirusa,
the leading developer of Voice SMS and other value added mobile
services, has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademarks
Office for "A Technique for Synchronizing Visual and Voice
Browsers to Enable Multi-Modal Browsing". The patent is for
a technology that allows voice browsers to be synchronized with
visual browsers to allow customers to experience a better multi-modal
user interface.
Multimodal technology allows users to combine voice and visual
interfaces when interacting with an application. Voice interaction
can escape the physical limitations on keypads and displays as
mobile devices become ever smaller. Visual and Voice enabled multimodal
browsing empowers users to interact with applications in ways
that are most suitable to the situation. For example, a user can
ask for a stock quote by speaking the name of a company, and then
see the results as a graph on the screen of a mobile device. As
another example, when using the Voice SMS application, a user
can send and reply to SMS messages by speaking.
On receiving the patent David Berkley, Chief Scientist, Kirusa
said, “As an innovator, Kirusa is continuously inventing
new technology, and this patent further strengthens our intellectual
property position. The technology covered by this patent forms
the basis of the Kirusa Multimodal Platform, enabling creation
of applications with a superior multimodal interface."
