Integrated Solution to address increasing global customer
demand for alternatives to the "type and read” mobile
text message
PARSIPPANY, NJ, and NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - December 9, 2008
- Dialogic Corporation (“Dialogic”), a global provider
of world-class products and technologies for media and signal
processing and Kirusa, Inc. (“Kirusa”), a value-added
mobile services provider, today announced that Kirusa has incorporated
the Dialogic® Vision™ VX VoiceXML Server within Kirusa’s
Voice SMS solution and other value added services, being deployed
by mobile carriers around the world. The integrated solution
has been successfully deployed at carriers in Asia and Latin
America.
Kirusa is one of the early pioneers of Voice SMS, a fast-growing
service that allows subscribers to record a voice message in
the same way that they send an SMS text message. Users simply
dial the * key, followed by a mobile number, and then speak
their message. Recipients receive an SMS notification on their
mobile phones and press a button to listen instantly to the
recorded message.
Voice SMS avoids the difficulties of “triple tap” text
input in situations such as driving, where typing can be difficult
or unsafe. Voice SMS provides a useful way to give call recipients
information or initiate a non-real-time conversation, while
allowing them the option to delay their response until a more
convenient time. In addition, voice conveys emotion and tone,
and thus can provide a more meaningful and in-depth understanding
than a standard SMS text message. In the two years since its
introduction, this new messaging paradigm has been adopted
by tens of millions of mobile users in dozens of countries.
Kirusa’s KV.SMS™ solution lets carriers deploy
Voice SMS services rapidly. It also provides the open standards
to embrace all generations of CDMA and GSM networks, while
enabling support for next-generation infrastructures such as
3G and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS).
Ewald Anderl, CTO of Kirusa, said, “Voice SMS is the
next-generation messaging application that is quickly gaining
momentum among carriers around the world. The Vision VX VoiceXML
Server provides the development speed to bring Voice SMS and
additional mobile value added services rapidly to market while
its proven carrier grade platform allows an ease of deployment
within operator networks. This partnership will help our customers
continue to grow.”
The VX Server is an open platform that enables Kirusa to quickly
develop voice applications to meet extreme time-to-market expectations,
cutting service launch time from months to weeks. The VX Server
manages call traffic for the application to ensure accurate
message delivery and billing within the operator’s infrastructure.
In addition, the VX Server provides universal media ports that
also support video, providing a path for operators to use the
same platform to support future applications such as Video
SMS, and mobile TV.
“Carriers who want to maintain a competitive advantage
can’t afford to wait to deploy new revenue-producing
services,” said Jim Machi, senior vice president of marketing
at Dialogic. “This relationship with Kirusa is a testament
to the rapidly growing popularity of Voice SMS. It also underscores
Dialogic product momentum as service providers seek development
environments that are easy to use, fast, and flexible enough
to support and deploy next-generation services.”
